TRACEABILITY OF PRODUCTS
Traceability is an automated and digitized system which is based on ample evidence collected and recorded at each stage of production, from the collection of olives in the olive grove, its receipt from the olive oil factory, the initial analysis of each batch, the extraction and production process, its storage per quality and sensory class, the standardization and production of the finished product, up to its loading to the customer, i.e. on all data at all stages of the food chain. Each standardization lot has a unique batch number, which is printed on the packaging and is used for product traceability.
Through special software all the above stages are recorded and associated with the LOT number printed on the package. In this way the consumer can, by entering this number in the special field on the company website www.melasoil.gr, see directly all data concerning traceability from the farm to the shelf. "Melas Olive Oil Domain" uses the method of traceability as a tool to inform the consumer and, thus, as an element to promote its products. It is very important that the consumer can find any time he/she wants, through the internet, the origin, quality and all elements of production of any product consumed. All this becomes even more important to consumers who purchase a premium olive oil, as their requirements for the product are increased and it should be ensured that the added value paid on an authentic, high quality product is certified.
"Melas Olive Oil Domain – Gaea of Epidaurus" - as a member of the Certified Quality Olive Products - participated in the programs conducted by the Oil organizations under the regulations 2080/05 and 867/08, through which it was funded and thus established the deployment of an integrated traceability system.
